A Poem by Max Brewster

On September 14, 2010 the We Are the People Rally was held in Denver, Colorado. One of the most inspiring moments was hearing J. L. (Max) Brewster read a poem. He is correct, what will we tell our grandchildren 20 years from now? What did we do to protect their freedom.

How Will You Answer Your Grandson?
By J. L. (Max) Brewster

My Grandson came over the other day
He's grown up now and I'm old and gray
Asking Grandpa, why did you give my freedom away?
With a trembling voice, this is all I could say

I tried my hardest, I protested, I wrote
To my Congressman, Senators, and I did always vote
I learned about issues, the Constitution, and more
I thought of your brother and cousin, I'll stop this I swore

I found like minded people but our numbers were few
We gathered together, got involved, we all knew
That our republic was dying, the Constitution was dead
Put down by elitists and those who wore red

I did all I could and I'm sorry my son
Tears rolled down my face, I wish we had won
He gave me a hug, said I'm proud Grandpa to know
That you tried your hardest, wouldn't let freedom go

I thought of his question I wished would have been
Grandpa what saved the republic? How did you win?
You had no money, connections, or clout
How did this happen? What was it about?

I told him how corruption had swept over the land
People gathered together, they marched hand in hand
To the Capitol in Washington, then their state, then their town
Once involved and informed, no one could keep them down

We chose principled leaders to take up the fight
Against power, corruption, and to do what was right
Things started to change rather quickly at first
Freedom flooding the land like a dam that had burst

Government shrunk smaller and smaller, it was amazing to see
Bureaucrats getting their pink slips instead of you and me
Businesses started to prosper and many came back
The reason? No magic, just much lower tax

I came back to reality, my heart sank like a stone
Back to reality, no freedom, I'm chilled to the bone
The government runs everything, they knock on my door
Inspecting my thermostat, my light bulbs, and more

I still keep on thinking and remembering a time
When I was truly free and my property was mine
But my Grandson knows one thing, that he is not free
No, not like I was and he is beginning to see

That maybe its possible to once more light that spark
Of freedom and liberty that will light up the dark
And maybe his generation will turn the spark to a flame
That went out under my watch, I still am to blame

So when your Grandson comes to you a generation from now
What will he say? Will he ask how
Did you lose my freedom? Why didn't you fight?
Or will he say? I love you Grandpa. Thank you for protecting my rights

Shedding light on the cost of pay and benefits of public sector employees

Is public sector compensation too high? What are the risks due to current govennment accounting and reporting practices?

88,000 institutions in the United State make up the "public sector". Collectively, these institutions employ approximately over 20 million workers. In 2008, wages and benefits of $1.1 trillion accounted for half of total state and local government spending.

According to a Cato Institute Bulletin, public sector pay averages 45% higher that the private sector average. Public sector workers also have a large advantage in health insurance, pension plans and paid leave.

American Power Act - bad for America - targets coal industry

electric-light-bulbWhy you should care? because America uses coal to generate electricity.

"In the US, coal is the major source of affordable, reliable electric power, generating about 50% of US electric power; oil generates about 1%. Contrary to claims, the American Power Act has little to do with reducing oil dependency and everything to do with destroying coal generation of electric power. On May 5, the Congressional Budget Office reported that that coal industry will suffer the greatest job loss from such a bill. Of course, the bill has great allowances for selected industries, called “crony capitalism,” and great subsidies to “alternative energy and green jobs.”

Freedom of Speech in the Netherlands, a First Amendment Lesson

Geert Wilders, a Dutch politician in the Netherlands is charged with discrimination against Muslims.  Mr Wilders, has compared the Quran with Mein Kampf, stating that both works are similar in terms of their anti-Semitism and incitement to hatred.  An article dated Jan 26, 2010 in the WSJ states that Mr Wilders "insists his focus is on radical Islam and the Quran, which he considers to be not only a religious text but also a political pamphlet encouraging Muslims to discriminate against and, if necessary, kill Jews, Christians, apostates and other unbelievers."  We have posted two Video Clips about this trial and the first amendment issues it raises. As America struggles with Political Correctness there should be much to learn as this trial proceeds.  If you "google" Geert Wilders...you will find many articles about this trial, please post comments as you find items of interest.  Carol K.

More Lessons from Scott Brown's Win...

You might have heard the phrases, the names and all the goofy sounding words like "twitter", "tweeting", "blogging", "friending" or maybe not.  Perhaps what Scott Brown's campaign did will cause you to want to learn more about how to leverage the plethora of social marketing tools that are mostly free and only cost you the sweat equity of learning how to master and exploit for your particular cause.

Lessons Learned from Scott Brown Wiin

From an article by Newt Gingrich dated Jan 21, 2010...here are nine key lessons from the Scott Brown win. Source: Human Events.com

Lesson One: Run Candidates Everywhere
The first lesson Republicans should take from last night's victory is the GOP should run candidates everywhere this year and not worry about whether the district used to vote Republican.

Why participate in the Caucus?

Why participate in the Caucus/Primary Election Activities versus support 3rd party candidates?
We need to identify very good principled candidates and help them win in the primaries and we’re going to send them to Washington as Republicans or Democrats ( we don’t care which, because we don’t care what party someone belongs to) where they can actually defend the Constitution and restore the Republic to its founding principles.

We need to participate as Republicans or Democrats...why?  Because of Duvergers Law? What is Duvergers Law? Whenever "50% of the vote plus 1 more" wins EVERYTHING", people will eventually coalesce around 2 parties even when they DON'T want to do so.
From Tom Tancredo - An Open Letter to Colorado’s 9-12 activists and Tea Party patriots
December 21, 2009

Shortly after 1:00 AM on Monday morning in our nation’s capital, while most Americans were sleeping, the United States Senate voted 60-40 to place another 17% of our nation’s economic activity under the control of federal bureaucrats.

Colorado’s two U.S. Senators, Michael Bennett and Mark Udall, voted for a 2,900-page monstrosity of a bill they had not read. The headline in Monday’s Denver Post said it all: “Party-line vote virtually assures Senate passage.”

I ask you to ponder the meaning of that headline. Not a single Republican voted for this federal takeover, a deceptive, pork-laden proposal that has been mislabeled, “health care reform.” And not a single Democrat voted against it. Some like Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Ben Nelson of Nebraska were bought off by $100 million or $300 million bribes buried deep in the bill, while others simply bought into the despicable lies about the nations’ health insurance industry.

Letter to Dick Wadhams, the chair of the Colorado GOP

Hello Dick,

My name is Lesley Hollywood.  I am the leader of the Northern Colorado Tea Party.

I am writing to express my extreme disgust with what is happening right here in Colorado with the GOP.  My disgust lies primarily with Scott McInnis & Jane Norton, the state GOP, and the blatant hijacking of the Tea Party.  Myself and my fellow Tea Partiers will not be swayed by a "Platform for Prosperity".  This is nothing but a propaganda tool and we are hip to it.  Obama is the king of propaganda and it has been overdone.  He has proven that propaganda means nothing.  Rhetoric means nothing.  We are sick and tired of playing "politics as usual" and this is a recipe for disaster in 2010.

Socialized Medicine is not new...

As we still fight the struggle to keep Obama and his corrupt democrat/communist controlled Congress from destroying the greatest health care system on earth, and totally usurping our Constitution, let me leave you with this from Ronald Reagan. This is from the 1961 Operation Coffee Cup Campaign against government run health care.
