BAD EXECUTIVE BRANCH ACTIONS: |
ACTIONS YOU CAN TAKE: |
1. The EPA’s Environmental Appeals Board ruled to withhold critical air permits to Shell Oil Company, which caused Shell to scrap its plans to explore for oil in the seas north of Alaska—abandoning 5 years and $4 Billion spent on the effort. These clowns cited Shell’s failure to take into consideration emissions from an ice-breaking vessel when calculating overall greenhouse gas emissions from the project!!! The EPA thinks it may negatively affect a town 70 miles from the project with 245 inhabitants. |

OUR SUGGESTIONS TO REDUCE GOVERNMENT UNTIL WE CAN DROWN IT IN THE BATHTUB: Rep. Hensarling of Texas has introduced H.R.1182 GSE Bailout Elimination and Taxpayer Protection Act, which provides for ending the GSE’s federal conservatorship within two years and accelerates the timeline for privatization. The bill not only repeals Fannie and Freddie’s affordable housing goals mandate, but will cap maximum portfolio size at $700 billion and reduce that cap over five years to $250 billion. Since 2008 Fannie and Freddie have been repeatedly bailed out by taxpayers to the tune of $153 billion and they continue to hemorrhage at the rate of $1 – 3 billion per quarter. This is government engaging in commerce as a competitor to private enterprise and it is a dismal failure. Fannie and Freddie played a central role in the housing bubble and collapse, and do not deserve our support, nor do they have a legitimate role in government or commerce. |
