ICLEI/Ft. Collins - Facts
An ICLEI member for 17 years, pays $1750.00annual dues (paid by taxpayers). Ft Collins budgeting process in now guided by the "Triple Bottom Line" method. Instead of decision making based on financial criteria, the mayor and coucil are forced to equally weigh budget items based on the impact to the environment and people. This, combined with ICLEI's attack on private businesses, is why the City of Fort Collins is seriously looking for ways to take money (politely called "revenue sharing") from the City of Loveland.
ICLEI/Loveland - Facts
An ICLEI member for 2 years, pays $400 annual dues (paid by taxpayers). Keith Reester, Loveland Public Works Director, initiated the paperwork to join ICLEI two years ago. This allows the City access to ICLEI's toolboxes. These toolboxes teach local special interest groups how to pressure mayors and councils and teach local governments how to take control of private businesses. Membership in ICLEI has allowed Loveland to receive federal stimulus money. The Loveland library expansion will be paid for with ICLEI money because it will be a LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certified building. Mr. Reester is currently looking at 60 sustainability plans from around the United States and developing a document to present to Council. The City will be starting community discussions this summer on questions of sustainability practices, including transportation and the master plan.

Why you should be concerned
Taking care of our environment, developing energy independence, and planning for the future is a responsible approach to living. However, the green/environmental/sustainable movement consistently demonstrates their lack of concern for the people who live on the planet. Many green-labeled practices actually cause more damage to the environment. Powerful environmental special interest groups prevent research, development and implementation of new technology.Free market solutions to any problem are far superior that government intrusion. There is exciting research and development being conducted by private businesses but they cannot compete against multibillion dollar foreign nongovernmental organizations. The science says man-made global wrming does not exist, so why is there so much focus on the issue? Money, power and control. This all occurs at the expense of individual freedom.

However, green/environmental groups are using these techniques in negative and distructive ways. Great real-life stories are included which illustrate tipping points.
Superfreakonomics: Global cooling, patriotic prostitutes and why suicide bombers should buy life insurance. Steven D. Levitt and Stephen J. Dubner. These authors tell great stories about popular beliefs (global warming, pay as you throw trash stories, etc.) and use facts to debunk myths.

ICLEI Should be Removed From Local Governments
Begin removing ICLEI by attending council meetings and listening for green/sustainable/environmental jargon in agendas and policy discussions. Contact the mayor and councilors and ask that ICLEI membership be canceled. Start with a petition drive and present it to the mayor and council.
